ʻO Makuʻu Ke Kahua is a Native Hawaiian nonprofit organization established in 2019 to continue the work started by the Makuʻu Farmers Association. Today, they are probably best known for the Makuʻu Farmers Market held every Sunday, but their work extends far beyond the market. Their programs focus on community, culture, education, sustainability, and caring for the ʻāina.

One of those spaces is their māla, where they practice agroforestry.

Instead of growing just one crop in rows, agroforestry brings many different plants together to create a system that functions more like a forest. Each plant has a role. Some provide food, some create shade, some protect the soil, some return nutrients to the ʻāina, and some

Each page was curated and intentionally designed to make Native Hawaiian plants a part of your daily life.
